About

The name "Sutiono" originated from the Chinese surname "张“ which, in Hokkien, is pronounced "Thio". It was adapted to sound more Indonesian in the 1960s, in accordance with the political climate and laws at the time.

Born to architect parents and an artistic family, I grew up in the midst of blueprints and paintings. I was born in Indonesia, spent part of my formative years in Beijing, China, completed my Bachelor's in St. Andrews, Scotland, and continued my studies in Göttingen, Germany. I am currently pursuing my PhD in auditory neuroscience.

Art has always been my preferred mode of expression, and I've always been captivated by the beauty of complexity in science. I love biology-related puns and illustrations just as much as I love typography and handlettering.
